Title

BH250-116

Subject

Rhyolite

Description

BH250-116 – Rhyolite from Lighthouse Point, North Shore Area
This specimen is a rhyolite collected from Lighthouse Point along Minnesota’s North Shore. The rock preserves vesicular textures formed by trapped volcanic gases during solidification. These vesicles are now filled with secondary minerals, likely including quartz, calcite, or zeolites, deposited from hydrothermal fluids or low-temperature alteration after emplacement. The fine-grained groundmass and silica-rich composition reflect its origin from high-viscosity felsic lava, characteristic of explosive volcanic environments.
